Bern – West

In the summer of 2012, following the ideas of Lucius Burckhardt’s concept of “promenadology” – a method of becoming aware of environmental conditions through a practice of reflective walking – I roamed through Bern-West, attempting to comprehend and photograph the character of this suburb. I avoided taking pictures in places I knew, or shots that clearly indicate the location in the image. Instead I searched for light conditions that illuminated something unprepossessing or inconspicuous, turning it into an unexpected spectacle. I was guided by my subconscious and a vague feeling that prompted each photograph.
